A Brief Sample of Selected NACCE Activities

1987 — Held the first North American Conference on Christianity and Ecology in North Webster, Indiana. Over 500 people gathered to articulate the Christian responsibility to the earth.

1988 — Sponsored six regional conferences around the country, initiating the first regional affiliates. Established a Resource Center in San Francisco.

1989 — Co-sponsored a 3 day conference in Minneapolis, launching the Minnesota Interfaith Ecology Coalition. Published first issue of Firmament, A Journal of Christian Ecology.

1990 — Began partnership with Soil and Water Stewardship Week. Sponsored regional Earth Day conferences in several states.

1991 — Co-sponsored with the Soviet Save Peace and Nature Association (SPAN) an ecology seminar in Russia. Published the first issue of Earthkeeping News.

1992 — Initiated local faith and ecology groups in Illinois and North Carolina. Launched American Society of the Green Cross, Inc.

1993 — Co-sponsored Parliament of World Religions, Chicago, IL. Sponsored conferences in California, Arkansas, Minnesota, and North Carolina. Established a Hospitality Network and Speakers Bureau.

1996 — Sponsored the Earthkeeping Ministries Congress, "Discerning the Signs of These Times," Milwaukee, WI.

2001 — Sponsored "Spirit and Religion in the Ecological Age: Empowering Environmental Work," Little Rock, AR.

2004 — co-sponsored Bringing the Church Back Down to Earth: How Progressive Christians Embrace Ecology with The Center for Progressive Christianity. Conference was held at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. Featured speakers were Dr. John Cobb, Jr., Dr. Sallie McFague, and Dr. Christine Smith.
