This film is as much an exploration of the spiritual crisis facing Western civilization as a science-based examination of global warming. Why have we failed to act when we now know our current path will lead to our destruction? Are we more in love with our air conditioners and SUVs than we are willing to admit? The answer to all questions is no longer “It’s the economy, stupid” but “It’s the spirit, stupid”. The Clinton mantra suggests that greed is good. The facts now indicate otherwise. As Bill Mckibben notes in an article in the August National Geographic, many economists will agree that rising carbon dioxide emissions are directly correlated with economic growth. Al Gore makes it painfully clear that rising carbon dioxide levels are also destroying life as we know it. To NACCE, these are no longer scientific questions, but spiritual ones. Can we Christians transcend our traditions rooted in the first millennium and evolve a countercultural message appropriate for the third millennium? In short, can we change the society we are so deeply embedded in, to address what is fundamentally a spiritual crisis that threatens our very existence? Home     Table of Contents
