Volume Fifteen, Number Two March / April 2006 Eyewitness To Global Warming Leads Expedition to Twin City ChurchesOn April 2nd, the Earth Angels Environmental group at the Presbyterian Church of the Apostles (PCA) in Burnsville, MN, sponsored Will Steger’s Eye Witness to Global Warming. An audience of over 100 saw his slides of the melting glaciers and permafrost at the North Pole and Greenland, with consequent loss of habitat for polar bears and the melting permafrost with its increasingly rapid release of methane and CO2. Steger’s presentation at PCA was one of eight programs he is presenting in Twin Cities houses of worship this spring. Steger, Minnesota’s polar explorer, educator, writer and photographer, is providing an energetic push to the efforts of the sponsoring group, Minnesota’s Congregations Caring for Creation (C3), to educate congregations and the public about global warming and practical actions that individuals can take to slow it. C3 is a part of a swelling chorus of people of faith calling for believers to take action to protect God’s creation from further global warming. In the past year and a half over 40 Catholic, Protestant, Jewish and Muslim congregations have joined this new and growing network tied together by a common belief that humankind has an obligation to care for the earth and its creatures.
