Fold - Unfold
By Tom Stock,
Long Island Bioregion
Each night we unfold into bed
Pulling covers over our tired bodies
To begin refolding
In sleep and dream
By morning, freshly folded like a hand towel,
Neat, clean, and ready to use,
We begin again
In the great concert, magnificent symphony
Within a wholeness that only enlarges
With pulses of creativity and transformation
Through death, birth, and growth
We unfold bedcovers in morning
Slip bare feet into slippers,
Shuffle to the bathroom,
Watch dawn unfold
Feeling like a slice of fresh, new bread
We've unfolded in an unfolding universe
That has been doing so
Since the beginning of time
Let us allow the year to unfold
In a patchwork quilt of
Right relationship,
Actions of peace and love,
New understandings,
Many occasions of beauty,
Service in our communities
Creativity, joy
And . . . gratitude
