Volume Fourteen, Number Five September / October 2005 ACTION ALERTIn the May-June 2005 issue of Earthkeeping News, we featured an article about Michigan Methodists who were fighting a huge Nestle-owned water plant in Michigan. Now they need our help. God has endowed Michigan with a wealth of fresh water lakes. But now large water bottlers are drying up these waterways and residential wells, and shipping water out of the Great Lakes watershed. To prevent these problems from continuing, and to protect this precious resource for future generations, Michigan needs to pass comprehensive water use laws. Legislators have an important opportunity this fall to pass laws that will protect these waterways; in fact a package of water use bills will be introduced in the House within the next few weeks. Please contact Rep. Palsrok (R-Manistee), chair of the House Natural Resources committee, and urge him to support comprehensive water use laws. Your voice can make a difference on this critical campaign. You may contact Rep. Palsrok via e-mail at davidpalsrok@house.mi.gov. 0r by telephone at 517-373- 0825. Let him know that you are from NACCE, that you want the water use bills placed on the House calendar as soon as possible, and request a response.
