Volume Fourteen, Number Three May / June 2005 ACTION ALERTVirtual March on Washington to Stop Global WarmingBack in the 20th century, Americans brought their government to account by organizing huge protests, in which hundreds of thousands of people marched to our nation's capitol to demand redress of grievances. Now, thanks to Al Gore's visionary funding of the Internet, all of that has changed. If you want to join a march against global warming, you no longer have to leave your desk — or, if you have a laptop, you don't need to leave your couch, bed, or bathtub. Activist Laurie David, SEIU president Andy Stern, Senator John McCain, environmental advocate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr, and actor Leonardo DiCaprio are all taking part in a landmark, bipartisan groundswell. For a full year, the march will "move" across the country, highlighting the effects of global warming on communities throughout the United States — and challenging Washington to take action.
