Call to Action:

Pray, Then Vote
To Protect Earth

Before this election, consider forming or joining a prayer/discussion group asking God's help in repenting of our sins against ourselves, our neighbors, and our home planet Earth.

Repenting means moving in a different direction. The discussion could focus on how we move the dialogue from personal sin to societal sin against all of God's Creation. How do we move from heedless environmental destruction for the sake of economic profits to real conservatism (conservation)? For example, how do we move:

  • from increasing mercury and lead poisoning of our air and water
    to rigorous enforcement of the Clean Air Act that reduces the poisoning from dirty power plant emissions;
  • from ignoring the reality and dangers of Global Warming
    to working cooperatively with other countries to limit CO2 emissions and reduce its accumulation in the atmosphere and oceans;
  • from opening up over 200 million acres of wilderness to roads for logging, mineral exploration and recreation
    to strengthening the Roadless Area Conservation Rule that helps protect wilderness from human depredation;
  • from militarism that supports an economic empire and the widening gap between rich and poor people and nations
    to distributive justice world wide, with the understanding that we are all interrelated and interdependent.

As Senator Gaylord Nelson pointed out on Earth Day 1970, "The human economy is a totally owned subsidiary of Earth's economy."
