Volume Thirteen, Number Three May/June 2004 NATIONAL RELIGIOUS PARTNERSHIP REWARDS CARE OF CREATIONThe National Religious Partnership for the Environment (NRPE), a formal alliance of major faith groups and denominations across the spectrum of Jewish and Christian communities and organizations in the United States, this year will honor the outstanding accomplishments of religious communities in celebrating, protecting, and restoring creation. The NRPE was established in 1993 and funded by the Pew Charitable Trust. Its four founding partners include: The US Catholic Conference, the National Council of Churches of Christ, the Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life, and the Evangelical Environmental Network. The Partnership is integrating care for God's creation throughout religious life: theology, worship, social teaching, education, congregational life, and public policy initiatives. The Creation Care competition is open to congregations and other Jewish or Christian (or interfaith) faith-based organizations that have carried out an environmental activity to engage people of faith in caring for creation, or are currently doing so. The number of awards to be made in each category is not predetermined, but will depend on the quality of the submissions. The applications will be judged on the imagination and creativity of the activity; its environmental impact and effectiveness; and its spiritual impact and engagement of the faith community. Deadline for submissions is June 30, 2004. Awards will be announced September 30, 2004.
