Methodist Camp Needs Help At a meeting in June 2003, the NY Conference of the United Methodist Church heard a report that its beloved Camp Epworth in Ulster County, 100 miles north of NY City, was losing money. A proposal to sell it, probably to housing developers (its appraised value is $3 million), was defeated until thought could be given to alternative uses. A final decision will be made next June 2004. Our NACCE Board member, Guy D'Angelo, says: "The easiest thing to do is farm the land --- grow crops using sustainable agriculture. Those 150 acres could feed a lot of hungry people. We might get help from American Farmland Trust which saves farmland from developers. Campers could experience growing food and other programs." Do you, the reader, have ideas how to save this land?
