Volume Ten, Number Two January/February 2001 A CHRISTMAS GIFTWhale watchers received a rare Christmas Eve treat when some 80 orcas from all three Puget sound pods gathered, "lined up neatly and performed a ritualized greeting ceremony," says the Bremerton Sun 12/27. The ceremony, which had been witnessed only 15 times before, began as "each group lined up abreast," and the "parallel lines merged." The whales then engaged in "lots of body contact and rolling around" before traveling together to the "west, then south, then east."
