Volume Ten, Number One November/December 2000 Australian Seminary Publishes New Earth BibleThe Earth Bible is being developed by a team of scholars from the Adelaide College of Divinity in South Australia. Writers from around the world, particularly the Southern hemisphere, read the Bible from the perspective of justice for Earth. The writers confront the biblical tradition in dialogue with ecologists. Using ecojustice principles as guidelines in interpretation, they ask questions of the text: Does a given text value or de-value Earth? Are humans portrayed as "rulers over" or "kin with" Earth? The initial publication in the Earth Bible Project comprises five volumes: Readings from the Perspective of Earth; The Earth Story in Genesis; The Earth Story in Wisdom Literature; The Earth Story in Psalms and Prophets; The Earth Story in the New Testament. Volumes one and two are now available ($28.50). A second set of volumes is planned, with ecoliturgies, ecorituals, hymns, prayers and related materials for use in worship and on public occasions. Groups representing distinctive orientations or cultures who wish to contribute are invited to contact the editor, Norman Habel, nhabel@senet.com.au.
