CHICAGO INTERFAITH GROUPS TO CELEBRATE EARTH MONTH

The Chicago Interreligious Sustainability Project, together with the Council for a Parliament of the World Religions and the Chicago Academy of Sciences, is sponsoring a set of spiritual journeys, or pilgrimages, for Earth Month. Because of conflicts in some sectors of the faith community with the actual Earth Day, April 22, the Interreligious Sustainability Project will celebrate its journeys on April 9.

Each faith community or interreligious group will design its own pilgrimage. Some may choose to plant a garden, others to walk to a nearby park or to celebrate a ritual meal in the woods. At the end of the day, all will gather at the new Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum for a celebration. Several Sustainability Circles from the Interreligious Sustainability Project will be planning journeys together with a diverse group from the spiritual community of the region.
