ROAR

In 1998 eighteen religious congregations owning property along the Hudson River in 1998 organized as Religious Organizations Along the River (ROAR) and assumed responsibility for the ecologically sound care of their lands in the Hudson Valley Bioregion. ROAR also includes 3 other river front landowners.

The group meets to study the history and land use practices of the bioregion, to learn from each other and to collaborate in efforts to address the interrelated issues of poverty, justice and ecology. One major environmental issue is the pollution of the Hudson river by PCBs. Plans for the long term sustainability of the bioregion include possible land trusts and environmental easements.
