1999 PARLIAMENT OF WORLD'S RELIGIONS:

Gifts of Service a Major Theme

The Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions (CPWR) is inviting the active participation of religious and spiritual communities and individuals around the world in the 1999 Parliament of the World's Religions to be held December 1 - 8, in Cape Town, South Africa. The programmatic themes of the gathering are:

  • Encountering Religion and Spirituality, opportunities for discovery and inquiry
  • Making Connections, enriching encounters with the familiar and the different
  • Calling for Creative Engagement by religion, government, business, education and media
  • Embracing South Africa at a critical moment in its history
  • Offering Gifts of Service

Seizing the unique opportunity of the "Millennial Moment," the Council is inviting organizations, nations and religious communities to offer strategic gifts of service to the world — gifts that will make long-term differences within the planetary community.

Gifts of Service fall under the headings: Meeting Essential Needs; Pursuing Human Rights; Fostering Creative Engagement in Care for the Planet; Building Bridges of Understanding and Cooperation; Offering Sacred Practice; Nurturing Transformative Community; and Celebrating Life and Its Possibilities.

All proposals must be accompanied by a completed Description Worksheet, and must be submitted to the CPWR office no later than March 31, 1999.
