EUROPEAN CHRISTIAN ENVIRONMENTAL NETWORK LAUNCHED

Sixty people from 24 European countries gathered at the Orthodox Academy in Vilemov, Czech Republic, in October 1998 for the founding assembly of the European Christian Environmental Network. At the invitation of the Conference of European Churches, delegates came from Protestant and Orthodox churches, Roman Catholic Bishop's Conferences and ecumenical and church-related organizations.

The aim of the Network is to strengthen the churches' commitment to ecological concerns, to promote cooperation across national and denominational boundaries, and to develop joint Europe-wide initiatives on ecological issues.
