I have met with perplexing and frustrating stonewalling from the churches when it comes to integrating environmental issues into their outreach. As a cradle to grave Episcopalian, I expected a more open attitude, but have found that most active church people are in denial and shun my efforts to inform them. People are reluctant to read the truth about the degradation of the planet's resources and ecosystems. They are afraid they will be called upon to change their consumerist ways.
