TWIN CITIES GROUP INSPIRES OREGON LIVABILITY COALITION

Church Participation Is Key

Groups concerned about sustaining healthy communities in the rapidly growing Portland OR metropolitan area have recently formed the Coalition for a Livable Future.

Inspired by the coalition building around growth issues in the Twin Cities, the leadership of Archbishop Roach, and the work of Minnesota State Representative Myron Orfield, the Portland coalition unites social justice, community development, transportation, environmental and religious groups in the common cause of "protecting, restoring and maintaining healthy, equitable and sustainable communities, both human and natural." Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon is a major coalition player that can bring the key moral perspective of the faith communities to growth issues.

For more information contact Ellen Lowe, Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon, 0245 Bancroft St., Suite B, Portland OR 97201.
