Volume Four, Number Two November/December 1994 FRANCISCANS CONDUCT FIRST ECOLOGY LEADERSHIP TRAININGBy Michael J. Flitter, SFO, 604 Second Ave., West Bend WI 53095 During the first week in September, over fifty Franciscans from Episcopal, Lutheran and Roman Catholic faith traditions participated in a conference sponsored by the National Ecology Commission of the Secular Franciscan Order (SFO) of the USA, at the Graymoor Christian Unity Center in Garrison NY. This was the first formal meeting of Franciscans called to discuss the ecological challenges facing the planet. Seven days of presentations and discussions of the spiritual, ethical and physical aspects of creation, interpretive walks, meditation and prayer revolved around the major theme: that we humans are a part of nature, not outside the web of life. The conference provided us with many examples of how to protect creation through actions in our daily lives. For more, contact Charles G.
