LESSONS FROM THE MIDWEST FLOODS

There are at least three lessons in this disaster: First, we can better sympathize now with others world-wide who experience tragedies. In the floods of South Asia 20 million persons are affected in countries with no money for grants or low-interest loans, or volunteer networks like ours.

Second, as we experience shortages of potable water, we can better sympathize with those who each day haul their water many miles.

The third lesson must be that stealing from nature is not a good idea. We have stolen land that the river needs to do its work, and wetlands that our wildlife need to survive. Our greed has taken precedence over the needs of nature. We are now being called to task for that.
