Volume Two, Number Five May/June 1993 NACCE CO-SPONSORS PARLIAMENT OF WORLD RELIGIONS, CHICAGO, AUGUST 28 - SEPTEMBER 4, 1993.This summer, one hundred years after the first Parliament of World Religions gathering at the Chicago Exposition of 1893, thousands of religious and spiritual leaders and people from many faiths and cultures will come together in a second parliament, to share the wisdom of their traditions in addressing the critical issues of the 21st century ecology, education, health, peace, economic justice, science and technology. This is much the same agenda presented by the world's political leaders at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Recently, over seventy five people from environmental, population and sustainable development organizations met in Washington DC to explore ways more regional and local organizations could participate. John Hoyt, President of the Humane Society, said at the meeting, "It is important to deepen and enrich our thought and change the dialogue among our rank and file. It is not enough to get leaders to sign off on declarations of intent. We must help people find their voices." NACCE, as a co-sponsor, has organized several conference workshops focussing on ecological ministry, theology, spirituality and interfaith dialogue. In addition, NACCE members are invited to attend a special gathering during the event. Call NACCE member services (612) 698-0349 if you would like to attend. For registration materials, write or call Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions, PO Box 1630, Chicago IL 60690, (312) 629-2990.
