EARTHKEEPING NEWS A NEWSLETTER OF THE NORTH AMERICAN COALITION FOR CHRISTIANITY AND ECOLOGY Volume One, Number Three January/February 1992 A RANGE OF SUMMITS The pressure is building for a responsible role by the United States in the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), the Earth Summit in Rio. The U.S. Citizens Network on UNCED is calling for a massive gathering in New York City of grassroots leadership from all sectors of society on March 7-8, or longer. The final Preparatory Committee session for the Earth Summit will be taking place at the UN during March. Incidentally, 25 states will be having presidential primaries during the same period. In preparatory negotiations, the USA has been the only industrialized country refusing to accept limits on carbon dioxide emissions to slow global warming.
